Cool Crafts for Kids to do at Home

Thank you Scholastic Klutz for sponsoring this post.

Are you looking for fun indoor activities for your kids to do independently?

If your kids are like mine, they love arts and crafts, science and diy projects. While I am thrilled that my kids share my passion for these things, it can be a challenge supervising them during their crafts while creating my own. With us working from home more than usual over the past two years, we really needed the girls to play/craft independently sometimes. Scholastic Klutz kits are an amazing solution to our dilemma! They are cool crafts and kits for kids that can be done at home.

Klutz Bio Chem Creatures: Learn and Craft

Our first kit was the Klutz Maker Lab Bio Chem Creatures. It’s a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (S.T.E.M) kit that includes a 32 page book. My girls love the excitement of mixing things and getting a chemical reaction so this was perfect for them. Bio Chem Creatures is for children between the ages of 7-10. They will experiment with bewildering powders and colorful slimy goo to create jelly-like biopolymers. The kit allows them to create 6 custom gooey creatures in an aquatic terrarium. Scholastic Klutz kits are safe, fun and easy for kids to use.

The kit includes over 10 experiments. The instructions are so clear and easy to follow that the girls completed several experiments without our help. After seeing how much fun they were having, my husband and I decided to join in for an experiment…or two. While we all worked together completing the steps, we saw how the kids were truly learning throughout the different forms that the biopolymers went through. They were also witnessing the chemical reaction between sodium alginate and calcium chloride. In addition to that, they were learning the life cycle, how it started as an egg and continued to change in form.

In the end, we had created cute gooey creatures that we could display in a specimen test tube. We decorated the mixing bowl and our test tubes in fun stickers that came with the kit. This was such a fun for all of us. Although we were looking for a solution to the kids playing independently, this is also a great way for us to spend time together as a family.

We love that they are learning without even realizing it! Scholastic Klutz kits make it so simple for kids to follow the easy to read instructions on their own. With there being several experiments in the kit, they were able to enjoy it over the course of several days and this freed up time for me to get some work done while they were playing and learning. We are looking forward to choosing one new kit every couple of weeks. Klutz offers a variety of kits and crafts that are sure to match the interests of your little ones. They provide the opportunity to create great experiences for families with young children. The kids can’t wait to see what crafts and projects their next kit holds.
